“This is a homage to our past and a beacon for those who follow.
It relates directly to our past, and how we have become part of a global community."

DENIS TONER

There are so many worthy causes in this troubled world that a statue may seem an unworthy choice when the rest of our reality is so bleak. But art is as nurturing to our souls as water in the desert. When the art is inspiring and universal, our landscape is illuminated with hope and the possibility of a better world—one of community and tolerance. Nantucket and Beaune would be enriched by this monument.

We hope that you share our vision of a better world that can exist only with an understanding and respect for the values that both Beaune and Nantucket stand for. This statue, which would endure for generations, is a gift to those who follow and a reminder to them of our heritage.

This is the latest version of the maquette of the statue. It portrays a whaler with a lance and a grape harvester emptying a basket of grapes.

The maquette (mock-up) is a work in progress, and is subject to change. The proposed height of the statue is 13-15 feet, not including the base, so this statue will be a major addition to the artistic landscape of Nantucket, and a direct reference to our historic past.
